The scarcity of water is a global problem. The two main sources of water- surface and groundwater have to be harnessed to increase the water storage and fulfill the need for water for irrigation, drinking, and domestic and industrial uses. There are numerous methods of artificial recharge of groundwater that should be applied in urban and rural areas. As far as surface water is concerned, there are certain drawbacks. There are evaporation losses, pollution etc. which deteriorate the quality of water. Nevertheless, the water is suitable for irrigation. For drinking and domestic purposes, the water can be used after proper treatment. Almost 70% of freshwater is required for irrigation. Many small rivers and rivulets are drying up very fast. Lack of de-silting in major rivers, dams etc. is the main cause of frequent floods. Stringent steps should be taken to de-silt the rivers and structures. On the other hand, plans should be formulated to rejuvenate the small rivers. Consequently, it will also raise the groundwater 7 level. Here, as a case study, the rejuvenation of Deo Nadi and adjoining Kasar Nala is dealt. The upstream part of the river has been studied. Once the upstream part is rejuvenated, the entire River and Nala will be rejuvenated. This case study will provide guidelines for preparing plans for the rejuvenation of other small rivers.
